I came across this quote from John Cage the other night, and it seemed to speak right to the things I am foraging for my painting.
“Our intention is to affirm this life, not to bring order out of chaos, nor to suggest improvements in creation, but simply to wake up to the very life we’re living, which is so excellent once one gets one’s mind and desires out of its way and lets it act of it’s own accord.”
― John Cage
Green dreams itself moving, searching and growing. And I come along trying to follow it all in paint. Finding shapes, copying them down, and then re-connecting and re-combining them in the process of making an image.
In paint, I think it is just about trying to come along side nature, and how you feel about nature. You work with that. Find forms, find colors, connect, combine, create forms, create colors, looking for an impossible puzzle to fit together.
